DMARC – Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance – is an email authentication standard that helps users protect their email domains from spoofers, spammers and phishing attacks. A DMARC policy allows a sender to indicate that their messages are protected and tells a receiver what to do if one of the authentication methods passes or fails – such as send the message or reject the message. This tool enables organizations to quickly configure security settings for all their legitimate email sources. This instantly blocks any email impersonation based phishing attacks.

Note: We’re unsure if this is an online tool (we hope not) or a stand-alone app download. They state that it’s free in their Solutions page, but on the page link below they use “get started for free” and “try for free”.
ProtonVPN
Use this tool to ensure your Internet connection is secure and private.
ProtonVPN is a community supported secure VPN (virtual private network), with servers located in more than 40 countries. When you use ProtonVPN to browse the web, your Internet connection is encrypted. By routing your connection through encrypted tunnels, ProtonVPN’s advanced security features ensure that an attacker cannot eavesdrop on your connection. It also allows you to access websites that might be blocked in your country. Proton VPN is available for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.
Let’s Encrypt
Use this tool to ensure your Internet connection is secure and private. Use this tool to get a free digital certificate to enable HTTPS (SSL/TLS) for your website and to ensure your Internet connection is secure and private.
Let’s Encrypt is a Certificate Authority which allows an organization to create certificates, such as SSL certificates, to secure websites. The service is free but does require technical knowledge to create and implement the certificates. However they have extensive documentation and a community knowledgebase. See links on their site.
ImmuniWeb Phishing Detection Test

SIEM, Logging & Analytics
The Elastic (ELK) Stack
This is a longstanding, firm favourite of ours. Notably, this is what Splunk is built on. We’ve seen the ELK stack successfully deployed at both large and medium businesses. See Graylog for smaller businesses which is slightly more user friendly.
ElasticSearch, Logstash, and Kibana (ELK) remain a powerful combination for centralising log data.
Note: The free version uses the Elastic License or SSPL, while OpenSearch (an AWS-driven fork) offers a purely open-source Apache 2.0 alternative. There is an enormous amount of documentation and help files available.
Select the “Or download and get started” option on the below site for the free version.
Graylog Open
An exceptionally user-friendly log management platform that is often easier for small IT teams to set up and manage than a full ELK stack.
Graylog Open offers endless scalability, simplified for growing IT, Development and Security needs.
New Relic
Free Open Source Log Monitoring Tool. New Relic log management can be deployed in context and at scale. Collect, search, and correlate logs from applications, infrastructure, and devices faster.
Their site states that you get 100 GB monthly and 1 user license on the free version. Please check the Ts & Cs. They also that this tool is free forever, but that may not include the storage. 100 GB for storage of log data may be sufficient for small businesses.
